Bake Something Fun, share it with the world, and {maybe} win a fancy new pie plate and server.
Thank you to all of you who participated in last month's Bake Club Challenge and sent in pictures of your GORGEOUS vanilla layer cakes! I hope you had as fun making them as I did looking at the pictures! The winner for the June Baking Challenge is Laura Donna from Seattle! Congratulations Laura! Your cake was lovely, and your apron is on the way.😊
Now. Without further ado...
The July 2019 Bake Club Challenge Recipe:
It's berry season, friends and this pie is one of my absolute favorite things to do with those magnificent juicy, plump summer berries. Make sure to read through the post about the pie and the recipe - there are a few tricks and tips I've learned over the years from baking masters that make a huge difference in the flavor and consistency for this pie.
The recipe calls for three kinds of berries - raspberries, blackberries, and blueberries. But, feel free to use whatever kind of berries you like, in any combination. If you follow the basic formula, allowing the berries to sit for a few hours to allow their juice to drain, then thickening the juice, any kind of berries should work beautifully.
Let's talk about crust for a moment... I almost always use this recipe for Fool Proof Pie Crust, because it's, well... fool proof. The vinegar in the recipe protects you from the possibility of overworking the dough, so that you're left with a tender, flaky crust every time.
But pie crust can be a personal thing. Great Grandmothers pass down their recipes and we get attached to whatever version works out well for us. So, please, if you have a pie crust recipe you love, use that. (And, maybe even share it with me.)
