Cut the butter into chunks and place it in a medium size light-colored saucepan.

Cook the butter over medium heat until it's melted and begins to boil. Continue to cook, stirring constantly.

As the butter cooks, it will foam up a bit which can make it difficult to see when it is beginning to brown.
