The BEST American Buttercream Recipe

1 & 1/2 cups unsalted butter 4 - 5 cups powdered sugar 1/3 cup heavy cream 1 tsp salt 1 tablespoon vanilla extract 1 tsp almond extract (optional)

Make sure butter and cream are at room temperature or they will not mix.

How to bring ingredients to room temp quickly

Beat the butter and 1 cup powdered sugar with an electric mixer on low to blend, then on high for 3 minutes.

Add 2 more cups of powdered sugar, the salt and extracts. Beat until the buttercream is completely smooth.

Check the consistency and add more powdered sugar if the buttercream is too thin.
