Thank you to all of you who sent in photos of your Chocolate Chip Cake! Many of you told me that you baked the cake for get togethers and back yard BBQs and it made me think about how different this summer is shaping up to be in comparison to last year. I baked this cake three times last month for three different small gatherings, and felt grateful each time for the opportunity to spend time in person with people I love.

June means the beginning of summer and the beginning of cherry season and this pie is the perfect way to welcome both. We have been in the Pacific Northwest for the past few weeks and the sweet cherries are in abundant supply. It’s only June 1st, but it’s possible my husband and I have already eaten our weight in cherries.
While sour cherries are only available for a few weeks out of the year, sweet cherries are available all summer long, which is just one reason why I love this pie. The other reason is the buttery, brown sugar crumb topping. The combination of flaky pie crust, sweet, juicy cherries, and buttery crumbs is my idea of the perfect summer dessert. I hope you’ll fee the same way.
