Building Block Recipes
Building Blocks are tried-and-true recipes that I find myself coming back to time and time again, sometimes to make them exactly as is, and sometimes as a starting point for something new. They include basics such as my favorite "fool-proof" pie crust, a recipe for perfect vanilla pastry cream, the best vanilla, carrot, chocolate and caramel cakes, as well as fundamental sauces, preserves, frostings and buttercream.
I hope you will use them as you wish. Use my favorite dinner roll dough for cinnamon rolls or sticky buns. Whip hot fudge into a frosting or filling. Ice your favorite cake with one of the many flavors of Italian Meringue Buttercream. Top your favorite pound cake or muffins with a buttery layer of New York Style Crumb Topping. Or, substitute all-purpose flour with my gluten free variety. Keep it simple or let your creativity go wild!
